USD/CAD at fresh 6-week highs

FXstreet.com (Córdoba) - The USD/CAD extended gains into a fifth day on Thursday, leaving several resistance levels behind, to reach a fresh 6-week high in recent dealings.

USD/CAD pierced above the 1.0515 resistance area and hit its highest since Jul 10 at 1.0525 before easing slightly, with the CAD undermined by really disappointing retail sales figures published earlier.

At time of writing, USD/CAD is trading at the 1.0520 zone, where it records a 0.5% gain on the day, with next resistances seen at 1.0540 (Jul 0 high) and 1.0570 (Jul 9 high), while supports could be found at 1.0495 (20-hour SMA) and 1.0465 (daily low).

The USD event risk next week arguably does not augur well for the USD with durables orders, consumer confidence and Chicago PMI all likely to underwhelm, while Bullard - seemingly the most cautious on tapering - is scheduled to speak twice next week, notes Sean Callow, a Global FX Strategist at Westpac.
